| * The Equation Editor - A MS utility when you need more formula capability than a = b + c * | |||||
|
When working with our high-tech clients we frequently need to include complex formulas in Word documents, Excel graphs, or PowerPoint presentations. The Equation Editor is one of the relatively unknown utilities by Microsoft, included since at least version 2.0 in 1995. Last week we showed an equation for calculating compound interest. It was created with the Equation Editor, and is shown here again. We have added two more formulas common to electrical engineers for calculating the average voltage of a periodic waveform, and the voltage across a capacitor at any point in time. Vectors, logical symbols and much more is included in version 3.1 which comes with WinXP. First you can determine if the Equation Editor is already installed on your computer, by searching for the file eqnedt32.exe. If so, you can create a shortcut from it to your desktop. If it is not installed, you can install it from the Control Panel. The general steps for a WinXP computer are, go to Add or Remove Programs and in the Office XP Setup window, select Add or Remove Features, select Add and under Office Tools, select Equation Editor. Now you can add complex formulas to your Word documents, Excel graphs, or PowerPoint presentations. |

Nice one JC! I don't know if your Excel is set to show it, but I use the Name Box to the left of the Formula Bar instead of the menu Insert/Name method to set cell names. -JM Good feedback, and we do the same thing for quickie formula's. But that will not include an existing row, or column label as a range name, and we were trying to demonstrate a more general case. - JC |
